Our academic training team and doctoral supervisors are drawn from the Medical Sciences Division (MSD) and the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences (MPLS) Division at the University of Oxford. The academic supervisor pool of SABS:R3 comprises over 40 internationally leading academics, drawn from 12 University Departments (six medical and six physical sciences).

Since 2009, SABS has fostered close connections between Oxford's research community and the UK’s world-leading industrial biomedical research base. Our 24 partners are involved in all aspects of the SABS:R3 CDT, participating in research projects and co-supervising doctoral projects, helping to deliver the training programme, and providing substantial financial support.

The doctoral training and research carried out by our students addresses industrially-driven questions in three themes, each relying on the development of transformative software:

  • Theme 1: Computational & data-driven structural approaches to drug discovery;
  • Theme 2: Cellular microscopy and image analysis underpinning biomedical discovery; and
  • Theme 3: Physiological modelling underpinning biomedical discovery.
